Twenty-eight TrailBlazers and one canine, including newcomers who are always welcome, headed up to Fayetteville on a beautiful day for our third annual trek on the Greenways Trails where lots of new projects are in the works.  Frank Sharp met us at the parking lot to tell us about the changes, the first of which was that we were going to access the trail right from the parking lot rather than from his neat home nestled in the trees up the road.  His famous pizza lunches were growing too large to accommodate so many people up there.

It was just a little cool as we started up the trail but in almost no time most of us were either glad we hadn’t worn a jacket or were shedding them!  Along the trail we saw several wildflowers starting to bloom including lots of spiderworts and a few may apples that were already in bloom with their blooms somewhat hidden under the large leaves.  As we kept hiking there seemed to be several side trails that might make someone in his or her dotage a tad confused!  Finally we arrived at the Greenways Trail, no sign in view this time, and we took our de rigueur group pic.  What would we do without it – it’s tradition!

Trekking along the trail, we soon arrived at Rock City where we hiked through a rocky passageway that featured all kinds of large rocks and boulders.  This is the kind of place that is a child’s paradise, and we certainly have enough “older kids” in the club, Wild Birdman Bill comes to mind, who haven’t lost their sense of adventure!  After this we had some neat views through the trees of the city of Fayetteville.  There were mountain bikers on the trail today, way out of Yours Truly’s league, and we courteously stepped off the trail to let them pass.

After a bit Becky asked some of us to step off the trail so we could gossip about the others.  Okay, okay, so she just wanted to talk turkey to those of us who are spending next weekend at Buffalo Lodge eating, drinking, hiking, paddling, and/or snoring!

Next we turned around and headed back, and just like trail horses anxious to get back to munch the hay in the barn, some people trotted back (others of us like Yours Truly and Jeanette, back from medical leave, simply walked!) down to the trailhead at the parking lot where Frank Sharp has a new site for letting us make our own pizzas.  He now has two ovens that can quickly bake several pizzas in no time.  We topped this off with chewy raisin oatmeal cookies.  Frank only asks for a donation to further the Greenways projects.  A big thank you to Frank for again being a great host and fostering such a great project!
