Thirty TrailBlazers, a small but mighty band, once again ended the season at Devil’s Den.  We were happy to see some new faces, friends and relatives of members. In a startling, mindboggling change for the TrailBlazers, we had our picnic on a Saturday due to problems making arrangements to use the pavilion on Sunday.  A couple of us, unaccustomed to and uncomfortable with change, almost missed the event by planning to show up on Sunday!  We had great weather, a little warm and muggy, but there were some occasional breezes.

We decided to do things this time in leisurely fashion so we did not wear ourselves out with long hikes.  One group did an in and out hike on the Yellow Rock Trail, another band hiked along Lee Creek and crossed the swinging bridge, and a small trio decided to hike part of the Devil’s Den Trail and along Lee Creek in search of wildflowers.  There were several to be seen although most were “past their prime.”  Eloise took exception to this description, but Yours Truly stands firm in her opinion since she herself is a tad past her prime and recognizes it when she sees it!

When we got back to the pavilion, we encouraged the “boys” to start the fire for the wiener roast and they promptly stepped up to the plate.  There was an enormous amount of food including snacks, dips, fruits, salads, warm dishes, deviled eggs, desserts, and what have you.  We did our best to do justice to the food but we couldn’t eat it all and would not have been able to walk if we had!

Thank you to Becky for organizing our picnic and to everyone for their contributions of food.

We look forward to seeing everyone again for our kickoff picnic in early October to start the new season.
