A dozen TrailBlazers headed to Little Rock to do an urban trek from Big Dam Bridge to Two Rivers Park and back, only an 8-mile round trip segment of an extensive trail system. Big Dam Bridge is right in front of a hydro-electric plant and features panoramic views of the Arkansas River. Along the trail we saw fall color, beautiful homes on hills high above the river, soaring bluffs downriver, and fine views of Pinnacle Mountain. The trail is well used by walkers and bikers, and at times both were dodging and weaving to avoid collisions!

Of course, we saw things not usually found on other trails such as real restrooms, signs indicating that you must clean up after your dog or horse, bales of hay, paved paths, and a pole with bike repair tools attached as well as an air pump. It was also different to walk in comfortable shoes, with no walking sticks, and no need to constantly look at your feet! Of course, all this hoofing made us ravenously hungry, so we ate a leisurely, belated lunch at Romano’s Macaroni Grill.

Last of all we checked out Old Mill, an unusual park in a residential neighborhood that features a replica of an old mill and a unique bridge that makes the place look like something out of a Grimm’s fairytale. For our visual entertainment two brides were strolling around in their long dresses and creating great photo ops for everyone. It was a long day, but it made an interesting change from our other hikes.
