Twenty-eight TrailBlazers under the command of Captain Dana took the scenic drive to Mt. Magazine State Park on a beautiful, sunny fall day. Upon reaching the top of the mountain, we were relieved to still see blue skies with lots of sun. There have been times when we have arrived at the Visitors Center to find ourselves enveloped in fog clear down to our toes! On those occasions we had to take our group pic indoors, but not today! Upon our arrival at the Visitors Center, imagine our surprise to see Alice Nahas who hiked with us a lot in the early years of the club. Welcome back, Alice, and come again when you can!
Twenty TrailBlazers including some newcomers headed for Pedestal Rocks under the command of Buffalo Bob on a slightly overcast day with coolish temperatures that made for great hiking conditions. The trailhead is about 7 miles east of the intersection of Pelsor and Highway 7. Fortunately we had plenty of parking spaces available upon our arrival because this is a popular place to hike.
Eighteen TrailBlazers and one canine headed to Fayetteville on a warm and sunny October day to hike on Mt. Kessler with Judith and Ed as our hike leaders. Upon our arrival at the trailhead, Frank Sharp was there to greet us and tell us about the new innovations.
Fifteen TrailBlazers had a beautiful fall morning to take the short drive to Lake Fort Smith State Park to hike the Shepherd Springs Loop. Some fall color was in evidence but it has not yet reached its prime. It was only a little cool when we arrived and temps warmed up pretty fast.
Twenty-two TrailBlazers including some newcomers made the scenic drive to Mt. Nebo on a beautiful fall morning to hike the Rim Trail. As we drove along we noticed that there were some ever-darkening gray clouds. Alas, by the time we drove the windy road up to the top of Mt. Nebo, we were greeted by fog and no view of the valley below! We were wondering if Nebo Dude, our hike leader, had failed to roll up the shades!
Thirty-two TrailBlazers, both old and new, headed for Lake Alma on a bright and sunny fall morning. If truth be told, it was glaringly sunny for those of us who were driving east on I-40 toward Alma! We were pleased to meet some brand new hikers as well as some of the newbies from our kickoff picnic last week who were willing to come back for more!
Three score and four, maybe more, TrailBlazers headed to Devil’s Den once again for our 15th Kickoff Picnic to start our new hiking season. We were pleased to see a large number of newcomers as well as our regulars. It was a beautiful day but warm and muggy for those of us who hiked.
